Active learning

Active learning occurs when students are engaging in activities while learning to make it more likely they are engaged, understand deeply, and retain what they learn. Active learning is appropriate in all sizes of class and can be combined well with more direct or didactic teaching like lecturing.

Experiential learning

Experiential learning (EL) is a spectrum of activities where students practice, get feedback and reflect on a learning task that mirrors what they will do with their learning after graduation.

Building relationships

Establishing professional and caring relationships between educators and students make learning more effective, increases trust to ask for help, and increases student engagement. All educators can build strong relationships with their students.

Teaching technologies

Teaching technologies are supportive tools educators can use to create, deliver, manage, and analyze learning content for instruction to their students.

The Learning Technology Ecosystem (LTE) Toolkit is a collection of recommended teaching and learning technologies available at USask.

Using Canvas

Canvas is a dedicated learning management system for educators to share and organize learning materials and assessments and oversee the progress of students through their courses. Students can engage with the instructor and classmates through discussions, collaboration tools, and other integrations. Canvas can be used for courses in face-to-face, online, or blended learning environments.

Teaching online

Teaching online can be very different than teaching in-person. Navigating Canvas, developing a course, engaging students, and conducting assessments can be overwhelming for new (and seasoned) educators. There are many supports and resources in place to help you navigate teaching online teaching.

Off-campus educators

There is information and resources that is needed by both on-and off-campus educators; however, there are factors that are unique to those teaching courses off-campus. This page highlights information specifically for off-campus educators.
