Digital Exam Disruptions: Providing More Time or Attempts in Canvas
There will be instances where students or Canvas will experience internet connection issues. When this issue impacts a student’s ability to finish the exam, you can provide more time or attempts.
By Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and LearningDespite your best efforts to set up your digital exam with the proper timer settings and make the adjustments for any extra time accommodations for students, there will be instances where students or Canvas will experience internet connection issues. Canvas should be able to handle minor connection drops, but when it doesn’t or the connection is lost for an extended period, you do have options. Before providing extra time or attempts, you can review the quiz log to verify the student’s issue.
Providing more time or quiz attempts
Within both New Quizzes and Classic Quizzes, you have the opportunity to add more time to a quiz that is currently underway. If the quiz has closed, you may also provide a student with an additional attempt.
For New Quizzes, review the video below or written guide.
For Classic Quizzes see item 2. Add extra time to a quiz which is currently underway.
(Note: if you have set an “Available Until” time, you will also need to adjust it for this student)
