What is Remark Test Grading?

Remark is a self-service tool designed to create convenience and save instructors significant time in grading Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) exams. OMR exams are often referred to colloquially as "Scantron".

What is the purpose of Remark Test Grading?

  • Self-printing of exam OMR sheets.
  • Self-scanning of exam sheets.
  • Automatic grading of Exams
  • Import of grades to Canvas's grade book

Why use Remark Test Grading?

  • Flexibility in Exam Processing: Instructors gain greater control over the timing of exam processing and can avoid the lengthy trips for delivering or picking up OMR sheets, thanks to centralized assessment processing.
  • Digital Answer Key: Create and update digital answer keys at any time. This feature enables you to modify the answer key and regrade tests without rescanning a new answer key.
  • Dynamic Marking Schemes: Develop flexible marking schemes tailored to the instructor’s needs.
  • Canvas Integration: Connect Remark to Canvas to import courses, student rosters, and test assessments. This integration also allows seamless syncing of grades directly into Canvas.

Best Practices

DO

DON'T

Connect Remark to Canvas to download the course roster. This roster will be used for grading student assessments. You can either sync grades directly into Canvas or download them and import into Canvas later. For more details, please refer to Remark Test Grading: Grade OMR assessment.

Do not use Usask standard generic sheets for exams with more than 100 questions. Instead, print the Remark test grading sheet for 200 questions. Refer to: Print OMR Sheets

Use the Usask generic standard sheet for exams or assessments with 50 questions or fewer. For exams with more than 50 questions, please print OMR sheets from Remark. Refer to Print OMR Sheets.

Please do not scan more than 50 sheets at a time. This should prevent these issues:

  • The scanned images may not be received if the USask email size limit of 35mb is exceeded.
  • The scanned images may become skewed.

When scanning OMR sheets, set the resolution to 300dpi and use black and white color mode. It's recommended to scan 100 sheets at a time using the Ricoh network printer on campus. Refer to Scan OMR Exam Sheets.
