What is Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing?
Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing (EAQ) is a web-based formative assessment and examination preparation platform used primarily within nursing.
Students complete adaptive practice questions that adjust in difficulty based on demonstrated mastery. EAQ includes instructor-assigned and self-directed quizzes, detailed answer rationales, test-taking strategies, Next Generation NCLEX-style items, progress reporting, and educator dashboards.
Why use Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing?
- Support targeted, repeated practice by adapting questions to students’ demonstrated learning needs.
- Help students identify gaps in their understanding through answer rationales, progress indicators, and performance feedback.
- Help instructors identify individual and class learning patterns that may inform teaching and timely support.
- Provide formative practice with nursing concepts and NCLEX-style questions.
Learning Technology Ecosystem (LTE) Principles
Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing most directly address these LTE goals:
Designed for reflection and growth - Learners can test their decisions, receive feedback, and reconsider how they might respond in similar situations. Reflection is strengthened when the scenario is paired with a facilitated debrief or follow-up activity.
Best Practices
DO |
DON'T |
|
Use EAQ for repeated formative practice and mastery development. |
Do not treat adaptive quiz performance as a complete measure of clinical competence. |
|
Explain mastery levels, grading rules, and expected time commitment. |
Do not use analytics as the sole basis for high-stakes decisions about a learner. |
|
Encourage students to review rationales and confidence judgments. |
Do not enter personal health information or rely on Learning Coach as clinical authority. |
|
Use dashboard evidence to guide teaching and timely support. |
|
|
Test Canvas LMS launch links and grade passback before the activity opens. |
|
|
Combine EAQ with discussion, case analysis, simulation, peer explanation, and instructor feedback, so practice is not isolated from broader learning. |
|
|
Review class and student reports to identify patterns, adjust teaching, and intervene early with students who are struggling. |
