Dr. Susan Bens PhD Academic Integrity Strategist

Dr. Susan Bens holds the position of Academic Integrity Strategist -- a term position in the Teaching and Learning Enhancement unit, dedicated to implementing the action plan recommended by the Academic Integrity Task Force in 2023. In this role, she leads, co-leads, and supports projects aimed at building capacity, improving systems, and creating a culture for academic integrity across USask.

Previously, Susan worked as an Educational Development Specialist (2011-2023) in the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning, and before that in various leadership and services roles in student affairs at USask and in the college system in Alberta (1992-2011). Susan also serves as a sessional lecturer and has taught on-line and in-person graduate courses in university administration, student affairs, instructional leadership, and organization theory (Education) and in-person undergraduate courses in leadership (Kinesiology, Agriculture and Bioresources).  She contributes to research and literature in the areas of academic integrity and program-level change in university education. Susan holds a Bachelor Science of Physical Education (1992, UofS), Master of Education (1995, UofA), Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education (1997, UofS), Doctor of Philosophy (2010, UofS).

Susan is the great grandchild of settlers with roots in Scotland, Germany, and England who came to the Canadian prairies in the early 1900s.  She grew up on a family grain farm in Treaty 6 Territory and the homeland of the Metis and is grateful to live in this beautiful and diverse territory with her partner and their teenage daughters.
